Training

On-boarding new users

The ALM core offers training for independent use on all of our imaging instrumentation. See below for how we on-board new users.

Consultation and pilot phase

We offer a free 30-minute virtual meeting with our team to talk about the details of your project and choose the right instrument. If the choice is obvious, we go ahead with training you.

If we are unsure, we move forward with a pilot phase where we test your sample on a few different systems. We only charge machine rates for pilot imaging.

Reach out to us at almc@ohsu.edu with a description of your needs and to schedule a consultation.

Training Phase

We only train those who have samples ready or close to ready and recommend that users book training sessions in quick succession for better retention.

We offer two tiers of training: Project Specific and Expert Operator.

Project specific is for those with sporadic needs, e.g. it comes up only a couple of times a year. Or if your needs are very well defined in scope and/or time, i.e. you samples are always prepared the same way. This tier requires fewer training sessions with more limited access.

Export operators are those with frequent and diverse needs. i.e. you always bring something new to the microscope. Requires more training sessions with 24/7 access.

Solo session

The first independent training session after training where training staff are available to answer questions. Solo session should be book within one week of the last training session and during regular business hours.

Book time in iLab

Users will be marked as fully trained after they demonstrate competence at their solo session. All reservations are made through iLab- see our scheduling page for more details.
